Objective

This course is intended for air quality professionals working in the assessment of air pollution impact. At the end of the course, the attendee should understand the basics of regulatory air dispersion modeling and use screening and refined models for permit applications and risk assessment. Students work on case studies using ISC-AERMOD View.

Who Should Attend

Air quality professionals in environmental consulting companies, Government agencies, and other corporate environmental engineers involved in the prediction of impact caused by sources of air pollution.

Benefits to Participants

  • Learn how to use air dispersion models.
  • Understand the different U.S. EPA models for regulatory applications.
  • Apply what you learn in interactive case studies using various air models including AERMOD,  AERMET, AERMAP, ISCST3, ISC-PRIME, WRPLOT and BPIP.

Course Instructors

Roger W. Brode, PES, is a meteorologist with 22 years of experience in air pollution meteorology and dispersion modeling. Mr. Brode developed the SCREEN model while at the U.S. EPA, and since joining PES in 1989, has been the lead  programmer for the ISC2/ISC3 and AERMOD models. Mr. Brode has developed training materials for several models for the U.S. EPA and has been involved in numerous model evaluation and model application studies.

James O. Paumier, PES, is a meteorologist with 18 years of experience in meteorological data analysis and development of meteorological processors for U.S. EPA dispersion models. Mr. Paumier was the lead programmer for the development of the AERMET meteorological processor and for upgrades to PCRAMMET. Mr. Paumier has also been the lead investigator on numerous meteorological data and dispersion model analyses for the U.S. EPA.

Russell Lee is a meteorologist with 25 years of experience in air dispersion modeling. Mr. Lee was one of the lead developers involved in the evolution of the ISCST model and its associated preprocessors while a member of the prestigious U.S. EPA Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards (OAQPS). He is also part of the AERMIC group presently concluding the development of the AERMOD codes. Mr. Lee is currently an independent consultant in air pollution meteorology, AERMOD applications, and training.

Jesse L. The, Ph.D., is a mechanical engineer with 12 years of experience in thermal fluid applications. Dr. The received his Doctoral degree in 1993 from the University of Waterloo where he worked with computational fluid dynamics and the numerical prediction of environmental fluids. He has been a reviewer of the United States Environmental Protection Agency APTI Courses. Dr. The is the main author of the commercial software packages: ISC-AERMOD View, BPIP View, Screen View, SLAB View, and Rammet View.
